As with any pet wellness trend, when it comes to CBD oil for animals, there is a lot of information floating around online. Of course, you want to do what is best for your pet, which leads to the question: What are the need-to-know facts regarding CBD oil?

1. What is CBD? 

CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is a natural compound found in the plants of the Cannabis genus. CBD can be extracted from either the hemp or marijuana plant. The hemp plant is a cannabis plant that contains less than 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), while the marijuana plant is a cannabis plant that can contain much higher levels of THC. 

2. What is the difference between CBD and THC?

Both natural compounds have the exact same chemical structure except they are arranged differently, which accounts for the different effects on the body. THC is the main psychoactive compound in marijuana that gives the high sensation while CBD is a non-psychoactive compound. 

It is one of many compounds found in either hemp plants or marijuana plants, which BTW are both part of the cannabis species. Many people associate it with the compound "THC" which is found in marijuana plants and gives a "high." This is not the case, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound which is still in its' early stages of research, but has been able to show incredible health benefits for pets with no side-effects! In all of our products we only use CBD derived from hemp plants that contain less than 0.03% of THC. 

3. How will CBD Oil interact with my pet’s body?

CBD works by interacting with your pet's endocannabinoid system. How exactly? Well, many people are unaware that all mammals have an endocannabinoid system and your pet on his/her own produces natural endocannabiniods which are picked up by receptors in their system. The CBD in our products, which is a cannabinoid, is also picked up by your pet's receptors throughout this system. The endocannabiniod system, is a system in mammals' bodies which affects anxiety, pain, mood, digestion, inflammation and sleep. CBD helps to regulate this system therefore assisting in all the areas above. It has also helped with skin irritations and skin allergy rashes when applied topically. 

4. How can CBD Oil help my pet?

CBD has been shown to help pets who have anxiety, stress, pain, nausea, fear (of thunder, fireworks ect.), separation anxiety, epilepsy, arthritis, inflammation, allergies, rashes and glaucoma. It is also an appetite stimulant, immune booster, and anti-oxidant with cardiac benefits and possible anti-cancer benefits. 

5. Will CBD oil make my pet high?

CBD is non-psychoactive and none of our products contain any THC so rest assured your pet will not get "high."

7. Is CBD legal?

9. How many biscuits, drops or sprays should I give my pet?

With anything new being given to your pet, start low the first day to manage your pet's reaction.  After pet assessment, titrate up to recommended dosage for maximum benefits..  All pets have different metabolisms and it is our belief that titrating from a lower dosage to a higher one produces the best results. If product causes discomfort or nausea to pet, discontinue use immediately. Side effects may include lethargy, dry mouth, and lowered blood pressure. Consult your Veterinarian before beginning use of product.
